Louisiana Press Foundation Launches Technology Improvement Grant

The Louisiana Press Foundation is excited to announce the inauguration of its Technology Improvement Grant Program, designed to support advancements in newspaper media technology.

With individual grants capped at $1,000 and a total allocation of $10,000, this initiative aims to empower newspaper media organizations across Louisiana to enhance their technological infrastructure and capabilities while incorporating an educational component.

In an era marked by digital transformation and evolving media landscapes, newspaper media continue to play a pivotal role in delivering trustworthy news and information to communities statewide. However, keeping pace with technological advancements is essential to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of these organizations.

The Technology Improvement Grant Program offers Louisiana newspaper media the opportunity to access funding for various technology-related projects, including but not limited to:

• Website development and enhancement

• Digital content management systems

• Printing and distribution automation

• Social media integration

• Cybersecurity measures

• Multimedia production tools

In addition to technological advancements, grant applications must include an education component aimed at either informing the public at large or the news industry. This requirement aligns with the Louisiana Press Foundation's commitment to fostering education and knowledge dissemination within the media landscape.

"We are delighted to introduce the Technology Improvement Grant Program to support Louisiana's newspaper media in adapting and thriving in the digital age," said Garland Forman, president of the Louisiana Press Foundation. "This initiative underscores our commitment to empowering newspaper media with the resources they need to innovate and excel in an ever-evolving media landscape, while also prioritizing education and knowledge sharing."

Applications for the Technology Improvement Grant Program are now open to eligible newspaper media organizations in Louisiana. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the program guidelines and submit their proposals by July 31, 2024. Grant recipients will be selected based on the relevance, feasibility, and potential impact of their proposed technology projects, as well as the strength of their educational component.
